The aviary on Floor 3 is the only place at ZooJung where birds do not live in cages. Living trees, natural light streaming through a glass roof, and windows looking directly over Nha Trang Bay.
Step inside and birdsong surrounds you. It does not come from speakers. It is the real sound of finches flying and singing around you.
Zebra Finches are among the animals most extensively studied by scientists exploring how language is learned. The way their brains learn and repeat songs is surprisingly similar to the way people learn to speak. A young male must hear his father sing before he can reproduce the song correctly.
Male Zebra Finches have orange cheeks, black-and-white barring across the chest, and red bills — signals females use to assess health. Females inspect potential mates carefully.
That is because this bird is a symbol of a monogamous way of life. Once a pair bonds, they stay together for life.
Hold out food supplied by ZooJung and finches may land on your hand. They feel so light that they seem almost weightless.
Observation tip: Stand still, extend your hand, and wait. Do not try to grab them. Each finch decides whether to land, and the moment one chooses your hand is an experience few zoos can offer.
